Puyung Beach on Nusa Penida island is one of the nicest white sand beaches in Bali, but it’s still completely unknown to most visitors.

This beach also happens to be just a short distance from some of the most popular tourist sites in Penida.

This travel guide will explain how to get there, and everything you need to know before you go!

Puyung Beach

Puyung is actually the 3rd of 3 beaches in a row, separated by hills that you need to hike in order to reach them:

This means you will need to pass through Crystal and Pandan beaches in order to visit Puyung.

Puyung is still very much a hidden beach as of 2024. When I went, there were 100+ people at Crystal Bay and a small handful at Pandan, but no one at all at Puyung.

If you can find it, there’s a good chance the beach will be all yours!

I love the white sand at Puyung, and the high rock walls. It’s a beautiful setting.

This beach probably won’t stay hidden for long, so enjoy it while it lasts.

Entrance Fees

FREE as of 2024.

There’s no entry fee here.

How To Get To Puyung Beach

Puyung Beach is on the west side of Nusa Penida island.

You can reach it on foot from Crystal Bay, which is accessible by car or scooter with a small parking fee.

From Crystal Bay, walk south until you reach the end of the beach. You’ll find a hidden path in the trees. Follow this path over the hill for 20-30 minutes and you’ll arrive at Pandan Beach.

Proceed to the south end of Pandan Beach, and you’ll find another hidden clearing in the trees.

The entrance is a bit hard to see, since it’s hidden in the bushes (picture below).

Follow this hidden path for another 20-30 minutes as it climbs over the slope, and then you’ll arrive at Puyung Beach!

Nusa Penida Private Driver

If you want to explore Nusa Penida in the comfort and safety of a van with a driver, my top recommendation would be GetYourGuide.

They offer a full day of driving and sightseeing in Penida (up to 8 hours) for 1-5 passengers. This tour includes the whole van + driver + petrol.

We’ve used GetYourGuide for lots of tours and activities around the world, and they’re great! Highly recommended.

Where We Stayed

We stayed at Saren Villa on the north coast of Nusa Penida, and paid 240k Rupiah ($15 USD) for a private double room with cold A/C, hot shower, and good WiFi.

This is one of the cheapest options in Penida, and it’s in a great location near the best restaurants! We were happy.

Prices may fluctuate from time to time, so just keep an eye out for a good deal.
